The San Diego County Taxpayers Association (SDCTA), a watchdog organization that promotes accountable, cost-effective and efficient government, recently honored KNSD-TV NBC 7 San Diego and the Voice of San Diego (VOSD) with a Media Watchdog award at its recent Golden Watchdog and Fleece Awards, held May 16 at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel. SDCTA said the NBC 7 Responds Team, including Bob Hansen, Dorian Hargrove and Tom Jones, along with VOSD reporter Ry Rivard, uncovered a “glitch” in faulty meter readers that led to billing errors and higher water bills for San Diego Public Utilities Dept. customers. “After disproving several allegations made by the Public Utilities Dept, this series of stories prompted an internal review of the agency that culminated in a structural reorganization,” SDCTA said.
